MINDSET FIRST, ACTION SECOND
The NextGen DAOE Skill-Based Learning is an evidence based framework for fostering essential life skills among juvenile detention center youth. By breaking down the process into key components—Discovery, Apply, Observe, and Evaluate (DAOE)—this approach actively engages learners in their growth and development. Below are details on each of the components to effectively use this framework to enrich the learning experience:
DISCOVERY
Reflect on your thoughts, emotions, and motivations to build self-awareness.
APPLY
Use your skills effectively in real-world situations across work, school, and personal projects.
OBSERVE
Evaluate your skills through self-assessment tools that help clarify your abilities and support intentional growth.

Reflect on experiences, make improvements, and set goals for ongoing growth.
